Professional Membership is awarded to translators or interpreters who meet the strict criteria of the ITIA with regard to
a) qualification(s) and
b) level of documented translation and/or interpreting experience and
c) achieving a PASS in the annual ITIA Professional Membership Examination (translator or interpreter).

The assessors for this examination are drawn from an external panel of experts in the field of translation and interpreting.
Associate Members of the ITIA are encouraged to apply to become professional members of the Association. Non-members may also apply.
Professional members of the ITIA working mainly in the area of legal translation may apply to become an ITIA Certified Translator. An ITIA Certified Translator is permitted to 'self-certify" legal and official documentation that requires certification.
